Dog Obedience Classes
Circletop Farm offers Dog Obedience classes each April and September. Because dog obedience classes are held outdoors, your dog will learn to work among real distractions they may encounter from day to day. Each dog obedience class begins with an orientation class, held here at the farm, and it is WITHOUT DOGS. This allows everyone to get signed up, receive their equipment, and training materials, ask questions, and do so without your dog being underfoot and frustrating you. There will be a live demonstration given by a student and dog from the previous dog obedience class, and you’ll get a chance to ask them questions and see for yourself how well behaved your dog can be, if you’re committed to working the method. At the end of the orientation, the first homework assignment is demonstrated, followed by a Q&A session. So it’s important you attend orientation, otherwise, you’ll show up at week 2 behind everyone else, and playing catch up. My classes are not socialization classes, in that, you can just show up once a week, and expect to see results. Your commitment is to work the other six days outside of the class in order to benefit from the material you receive in class. Many students sign up for the dog obedience class, come once a week, and wonder why their dog isn’t any better off than the first time he came. Don’t be that guy! Orientation is held on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. and classes are held on Thursday evenings. Go to the Training Reservation Page and submit your request to be added to the call list for the next upcoming class. The cost of the class is $180 for the ten week class. “Reliability off lead should always be the most important criterion when evaluating and comparing training methods.” (Koehler, 1990)
