Dog Training: Walk on a Loose Leash & Pay Attention
This is the foundation of my training program. With the long line training, your dog will learn life is about making choices. We’ve all heard that before, right? But in a world where we are totally trying to humanize a dog, we never consider the dog as having the ability to make choices, do we? Instead, to keep him ‘safe’ we restrict him. Sometimes we use a leash, sometimes a pen, a crate, or a fenced in yard. Never do we think of him as someone who made a choice to be with us, do we? I’d like to change that.
Through my full ten week training program, your dog has the ability to earn his freedom, to be with you paying attention to you, and knowing it is the best place for him to be. A place where all good things come, praise, reward, affection, confidence, character, and responsibility.
The Walk on a Loose Leash and Pay Attention is only one week of the ten week program, but it is one of the most valuable lessons a dog can learn. I offer it separate to the entire ten week program, only as a tool in which you can teach your dog to walk with you and not pull. Hopefully, in doing so, you are enamored enough to want more and enroll in the full ten weeks course. Remember, it’s all about making choices. Do you want your dog to walk you, or do you want to walk with your dog?
Now a small disclaimer, it is not my intent for your dog to run free, unattended, responsible to no one, in short a terror in the neighborhood. There are leash laws we must abide by, but if you could take a long leisurely walk in a shadowed lane with your dog, with no one around but the nature in which you walk, would you feel comfortable taking your dog off leash, knowing he’d come back when you called? I would…and I hope to show you it’s possible, with my training program.
